Who is Anja? Give us a summary of how you started as a Hair Artist, and your achievement into the hair industry.
Hello! I’m a 33 years old from Germany. I’m a master hairstylist since 2011 and I work in a wig salon in Düsseldorf in Germany. I first started working with hair in 2004.
Has Hairpieces and avant-garde always been your passion? Can you share with me more about the hair creations that are shown on your Instagram account?
I love avant-garde, but in the last years I don’t have time to do my passion. Then corona started and it gave me time to find myself and find out what I really wanted to do. Creative work is what I love to do.
Avant-garde gave me the opportunity to work freely. On Instagram, you can see the first steps in my passion and how it evolved now. I’m so happy to find some amazing people for avant-garde projects. The results can be seen on Instagram.
The construction process of a wig takes many days or months to complete. What is the time frame and what adhesive/fabrics do you use to maintain the heaviness of such products onto the wigs?
I try to use everything. I use old hair extensions or wigs to give them a new life. I use garbage for the under construction. I love to find new things in hardware stores. I mix different paste with hair products to create new styles. Everything is possible. I find different methods to pick it together, I glue it, knot it, braid it or sew it together. Yesterday, I tried new methods for the future. Don’t ask about the time. I can’t say how much time I spent on hair it’s very very much time…..
When creating a new look, what are the key areas of complementing the perfection of design, craft, style and photoshoot at the same time executing the image?
Some models inspired me to do something special. And find a good team of experienced makeup artists and photographers that make everything perfect.
It’s clear that hair and long hairstyling is your true calling. What is it that you love about this creativity and how does it drive your work?
I love that avant-garde creativity has no limit. Everytime if I try something new, I find some interesting new ideas, and so goes it on and on. I’m happy that I can inspire people with my work. That drives me to do more and more.
They say you need to have an inspiration or a passion in order to do what you love. Where do you get your inspiration from, and what has been your most challenging wig to make and why?
I find inspirations everywhere — nature inspires me, art inspires me. People and life inspired me. I’m so thankful for Pinterest in this time. There you can find so many pictures of art and handcrafted things. The most challenge is to find good hair for the work. I love to use synthetic hair, but the quality sometimes is very bad. I always try new companies to find the best.
What fascinates you about this line of work? What’s the main thing that your job has taught you?
I’m a hair lover. There is no other material that is so versatile with hair. You should never give up your passion. If you love something, do it. If you are diligent it pays every time off.
What is hairart to you? Why did you decide that human hair/wigs/hairpieces are what you wanted to work with?
I’m a hair lover. When I was young, I played with my mom’s hair. So, I would work with hair since I was a child.
What do you do in your spare time?
At the moment, I try to inspire me for a new secret project.
How is your personality reflected in your work?
Good question! My personality is opposite to my work. I’m reserved and my work is noticeable. I’m aspiring to be better and better, and I hope that’s the same with my work.
Your work is undeniably inspired by avant-garde. What initially drew your attention to it and how do you interpret it in your work? Hailing from Germany, how do you also add your culture and roots to your creativity?
I think creativity has nothing to do with the city. My creative is inherited from my father.
He loves handcrafted works too. I use inspirations from around the world and love looking for cultures from different cities.
If you had a photoshoot and were to create a wig within one day, what would you style it with and who would you want to be your model?
I love to do things what you don’t see often with hair, I love to exaggerare. There are so many celebrities who I dream to do they hair. First is Lady Gaga.
